From wikipedia's page on Tokyo Drift: Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle said: "[The main character] has no plan and no direction, just a blind desire to smash up automobiles and steal a mobster's girlfriend. [...] As for the racing scenes, who cares about the finesse move of drifting, compared to going fast? And who wants to watch guys race in a parking lot? For that matter, who wants to watch guys race down a mountain, with lots of turns?"
Well I do? I watch Initial D, after all. I just seem to be finding people with extremely narrow views of the world lately.
On a side note, I found this while trying to figure out where Tokyo Drift fits in the F&F timeline. Han is alive in later movies, so does Tokyo Drift actually now take place much later in the timeline or did Han pull a Letty? If it's the former, that's fucking ratarded. Just leave Han dead so it doesn't look like they're racing around a Tokyo where the newest car is from 2006.

The movies are out of order chronologically.
Judging by the end of the last movie Han's death will be covered in the upcoming movie.

Pointing out the royally screwed up timeline and plot "continuity" of F&F was a favorite of mine. That aside, yes movie critics are a fickle bunch. But so are we. I think that's why most "car" movies either have to be incredibly faithful, almost documentary like but for a limited audience (love the beast, Le Mans, Truth in 24) or just throw all that out the window and go nuts but have some cool cars get a bunch of screentime (F&F, Bullitt, Vanishing Point). Trying to walk the line doesn't seem to work too well (Rush).

" so does Tokyo Drift actually now take place much later in the timeline" yes

That's stupid and makes the movie awkard to watch. That means it takes place after 2014, when they would have Toyobaru's, the 370Z, the Genesis, etc. but instead DK is driving a 350Z...

This is an eccellent point. Even the first film which I love has a few lines that make me scratch my head. "Ooo, he's running a Spoon engine and an...exhaust system? You don't say..." In Brian's defense though, he did have a shotgun to his head. Still, some of the car talk has obviously been watered down for non-car views, understandably so.

I'd prefer he pulled a Letty and faked his death.

Yeah, in a way, not the first time a series has done that though. The 350Z still makes sense in the way its cheaper to make just as good as a 370..but seeing as he's getting his money from his family, he'd defiantly be in the newest one, lol

That's what I'm saying, if not a drift spec R35.

Did they have the blue one running rwd or is it still awd ? Guessing AWD still, as the D1 car was white I believe.. funny enough, they made a 350Z version of that body kit now, don't think they've done a 370, lol

I just GIS'd it, that's my first time even hearing of it. Sexy as hell though. I always thought the R35 was sexy, I don't get the hate.

The only thing I don't like about it is how computer controlled it is..and Id rather have a 3 pedal, and it weighs alot,.. The rwd version they did for D1 (Japans big drift champion ship) was turned into a more analog car though, witch makes me happy, Less computers, and converted to rwd only :)
Don't know how it did in its season though..Heres their 350Z body
